Newsletters can also be used to educate and inspire your team to adopt features, especially as you're ramping up adoption post-launch. Since tags are foundational to how knowledge is organized and shared in Stack Overflow for Teams, we've put together this Newsletter Template so that you can educate your team on how to use tags to surface helpful knowledge in Slack or Microsoft Teams.

This week's Stack Overflow for Teams tip: Surface helpful knowledge in your team's Slack channels using tag-based notifications

Tags are keywords or phrases that categorize our Stack Overflow for Teams knowledge so that it's easier to ask questions and get answers. Tags can also be used to filter Slack notifications so only relevant knowledge is surfaced in your team's channels, making it easier to get answers and benefit from the knowledge without leaving Slack.

Follow these steps to set up a tag-based Stack Overflow for Teams notification for one of your team's Slack channels:

1. If you're setting up a notification in a private channel, invite the Stack Overflow for Teams bot first using the '/invite @Stack Overflow for Teams' command. Without the bot, notifications won't work.
2. Type the '/stack notify' command to kick-off the process.
3. Specify what activity will trigger the notification, like new questions and answers.
4. Choose how much of the activity’s description will show in the channel. If the channel is dedicated to surfacing Stack Overflow for Teams knowledge, then have the link unfurl to show the entire description. If the channel is also used for conversation or the tag you're using generates a lot of activity, then showing a short description or excluding it entirely is a better option.
5. Select the tag(s) that will trigger the notifications and to what channel(s). For example, the [product-support] tag can notify the #product-support channel. If you don't know what tags are available, browse our Tags page.
6. Click "Create notification".

Once you complete these steps, your team will be notified of knowledge relevant to them so they stay informed and are empowered to answer questions, all without leaving the Slack channels they use everyday.

1. Add the Stack Overflow for Teams app as a tab in the channel you want to set up a notification for by clicking the + sign.
2. From the app, click "Create a notification".
3. Specify what activity will trigger the notification, like new questions and answers.
4. Select the tag(s) that will trigger the notifications. For example, if you're setting up a notification for a Product Support team channel, select the [product-support] tag. If you don't know what tags are available, browse our Tags page.
5. Click "Create notification".
